White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature. The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 17,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats.
Position Purpose:
To perform landscaping, lawn care, irrigation maintenance, and exterior facility maintenance across White Oak Conservation property.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following. Other duties may be assigned, and some duties may be shared with other personnel.
Landscape maintenance – mowing, edging, blowing, pruning, and manicuring landscape, mulching plant beds, laying sod, herbicide applications, etc.
Prepare exterior of facilities and lodging before and during guest use.
Pressure wash decks, exterior furniture, exterior of facilities, walkways, etc.
Operate powered equipment such as mowers, farm tractors, backhoe, chainsaws, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
Clean exterior windows and furniture.
Irrigation operation and minor repairs.
Clean gutters and roofs of designated buildings.
Gather and split firewood.
Mowing horse riding trails, interior woods roads, and walking trails.
Grading and repairs to driveways.
Pest control for areas not included in pest control contract.
Tennis court maintenance.
Swimming pool and spa maintenance.
Assist Culinary Team with garden operations when needed.
Minimum Qualification:
Knowledge and experience using landscape equipment, semi-heavy equipment, and associated tools to perform work such as weed eaters, pressure washers, and chainsaws.
Ability to operate without direct supervision and be self-motivated, persistent, confident, tenacious, and take pride in work.
Experience working with irrigation and horticulture landscapes preferred.
Outstanding attention to detail.
Dependable, trustworthy, and neatly groomed.
Flexibility in work hours and schedule; job may occasionally require working long hours, weekends, and holidays.
Valid driver’s license required.
Special Working Conditions:
Working conditions include working outside in extreme weather conditions, various temperatures, dusty environments, noise, hazardous materials, use of ladders, man lifts, and semi-heavy equipment such as mowers, backhoe, and dump trailers.
