White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature.  The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 17,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property.  Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats.      


Position Purpose:


To oversee, lead, manage and execute construction and larger scaled projects to support White Oak’s mission and goals.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks:


•    Work closely with the Director of Support Services, Director of Foundations, and other White Oak team members to identify and define project needs, requirements, scope and objectives.
•    Evaluate project needs by developing and executing project scopes, drawings, budget plans, progress updates and project timelines. 
•    Lead projects involving multiple departments and teams while remaining in synergy and ensuring expectations and standards are being met.
•    Plan all phases of construction lifecycle from bid process to completion. 
•    Work closely with the Accounting Department to ensure vendors and contractors receive payment as required.
•    Ensure vendors and contractors meet White Oak insurance and accounting requirements and provide White Oak standards of quality, safety, and professionalism.
•    Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress with the project.
•    Adhere to budget by monitoring expenses and implementing cost-saving measures.
•    Ensure project work is being completed in a safe and efficient manner.
•    Develop and foster relationships with external vendors, contractors, and key employees of Nassau County.
•    Represent White Oak in ways that strengthen the brand and communicate White Oak’s message. 
•    Work closely with the Director of Support Services and White Oak’s Accounting Department to develop annual project plans, budgets, and capital improvements that support White Oak’s mission and goals.
•    Assist and support the Support Services and Project Management teams as needed.

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements:


•    Five years minimum experience in a project management or construction role.
•    Bachelor’s degree in construction science and management, engineering, architecture, or related field.
•    Excellent knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC systems, plumbing, irrigation and the maintenance and repair of all.
•    Project management software experience preferred but not required.
•    CAD or similar drafting software preferred but not required.
•    Excellent knowledge of construction and building systems; all related permits, licensing, new and existing codes pertaining to public building and fire safety. 
•    Ability to read and interpret plan-sets.
•    Skills in the use of GIS and/or GPS mapping 
•    Exceptional skills in Microsoft Office Software.
•    Strong organizational skills in planning, communicating and digital file management.
•    Knowledgeable in building codes and OSHA safety regulations.
•    Self-starter. Ability to operate without direct supervision and be self-motivated, persistent, confident, tenacious, and take pride in work.
•    Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills capable of maintaining strong relationships.
•    Analytical thinker, problem solver.
•    Team-management and leadership skills
•    Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
•    Dependable, trustworthy, and neatly groomed. 
•    Attentive to detail and overall aesthetics of White Oak. 
•    Flexibility in work hours and schedule; job may occasionally require working long hours, weekends, and holidays. 

 

Special Working Conditions:

•    Must have valid drivers’ license
•    Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move objects, climb a 5-foot ladder and work outdoors in all conditions
•    Must be able to work holidays, nights and weekends when required.
